Job Title — Dental Hygienist
Job Description
A faith-based charitable non-profit Community Health Center serving the people of Metro Detroit, has an immediate opportunity for a licensed full-time Dental Hygienist with our School-Based Dental team. Hours may vary. Reporting to the Dental Manager, and under the supervision of dentists, the hygienist is responsible for a wide range of tasks in the dental clinic, ranging from patient care to administrative duties to laboratory functions.
Typical duties include:
Clean calcareous deposits, accretions, and stains from teeth and beneath margins of gums, using dental instruments.
Record and review patient medical histories.
Examine gums, using probes, to locate periodontal recessed gums and signs of gum disease.
Provide clinical services or health education to improve and maintain the oral health of patients or the general public.
Feel and visually examine gums for sores and signs of disease.
Expose and develop x-ray film.
Chart conditions of decay and disease for diagnosis and treatment by dentist.
Maintain dental equipment and sharpen and sterilize dental instruments.
Apply fluorides, sealants or other cavity preventing agents to arrest/prevent dental decay.
Feel lymph nodes under patient's chin to detect swelling or tenderness that could indicate presence of oral cancer.
Treat patients with dignity and respect, giving exceptional care and compassion.
Other duties as assigned.
JOB Qualifications Education, Skills, & Experience
Two-plus years of previous experience highly desired
State of Michigan Dental Hygienist License and CPR Certification required.
Bilingual Spanish-English perferred
