Job Title — Dental Hygienist

Job Description

A faith-based charitable non-profit Community Health Center serving the people of Metro Detroit, has an immediate opportunity for a licensed full-time Dental Hygienist with our School-Based Dental team. Hours may vary. Reporting to the Dental Manager, and under the supervision of dentists, the hygienist is responsible for a wide range of tasks in the dental clinic, ranging from patient care to administrative duties to laboratory functions.

Typical duties include:

  • Clean calcareous deposits, accretions, and stains from teeth and beneath margins of gums, using dental instruments.

  • Record and review patient medical histories.

  • Examine gums, using probes, to locate periodontal recessed gums and signs of gum disease.

  • Provide clinical services or health education to improve and maintain the oral health of patients or the general public.

  • Feel and visually examine gums for sores and signs of disease.

  • Expose and develop x-ray film.

  • Chart conditions of decay and disease for diagnosis and treatment by dentist.

  • Maintain dental equipment and sharpen and sterilize dental instruments.

  • Apply fluorides, sealants or other cavity preventing agents to arrest/prevent dental decay.

  • Feel lymph nodes under patient's chin to detect swelling or tenderness that could indicate presence of oral cancer.

  • Treat patients with dignity and respect, giving exceptional care and compassion.

  • Other duties as assigned.

JOB Qualifications Education, Skills, & Experience

  • Two-plus years of previous experience highly desired

  • State of Michigan Dental Hygienist License and CPR Certification required.

  • Bilingual Spanish-English perferred
