Overview

Our Health Center was established to help demonstrate Jesus' love for the whole person through healthcare. Most of our patients are in poverty and nearly half are refugees from all over the world who have fled their homeland due to strife or other circumstances not under their control. Our patients speak over 40 different languages, with significant populations from 11 language groups. It is our goal to provide empowering ministries to demonstrate Jesus' love for the whole person to all who come to us.

Job Title — Dentist

Job Description

The General Dentist will work closely with the Dental Hygienists to suggest treatment options and good hygiene practices for patients. They will evaluate a patient’s oral health and diagnose conditions. The General Dentist will provide patients necessary treatment including direct and indirect restorations, removable prosthodontics, oral surgery procedures and endodontics, and will provide patients with referrals for any specialized treatment necessary.

Essential Job Duties

PATIENT CARE

  • Provide hands-on patient care as scheduled each week.

  • Refer patients for specialty consultations or treatment in conformance with approved clinical protocols.

  • Perform surgical procedures on the teeth, bone and soft tissues of the oral cavity.

  • Advise patients regarding the best course of treatment and provide a customized exam and plan for each individual, recognizing that every patient is unique.

  • Examine patients’ medical records.

  • Prepare patients for treatment (e.g., by applying oral sedation or anesthesia).

  • Check teeth, gums and other parts of the mouth along with x-rays and tests to diagnose dental problems.

  • Identify tooth decay and replace cavities with fillings.

  • Design and fit dental prosthetics, such as bridges, crowns and dentures.

  • Apply teeth-whitening treatments.

  • Conduct tooth extractions and root canal procedures.

  • Perform surgeries on diseased tissues and bones.

  • Prescribe medication as needed.

  • Educate patients on proper brushing techniques, flossing and fluoride use.

  • Promote good oral health and preventive dental care (e.g., by scheduling regular check-ups).

ADMINISTRATION

  • Ability to maximize revenue while decreasing costs for the dental practice and organization.

  • Demonstrate leadership qualities including, but not limited to, delegating, sound decision-making, empowering others and collaborating with leadership on strategic goals.

  • Attend mandatory trainings and utilize continues education credits in a manner consistent with organizational expectations.

  • Participate in quality improvement activities.

  • Maintain current certifications including all mandatory annual and CPR training.

  • Ability to adhere to professional code of ethics and compliance to FQHC requirements.

  • Other duties as assigned by Dental Directory or Chief Operating Officer.

Job Qualifications Education, Skills, and Experience   

  • Graduation from an accredited Dental Program.

  • Possession of licensure to practice in the State of New York.

  • Preferred 3-5 years of experience at a dental practice.

  • Strong leadership skills and ability to make mature decisions autonomously and with input from others.

  • Experience or working knowledge of EMR systems (such as Dentrix) a plus.
